I think something's going really wrong with my blog. Whenever I sign in into my blog in the Reid library now, it always registers as someone else's blog.. but when i go down to the Reid Cafe and use the free IMac's there, my blog is working as per normal... does anyone know what's wrong?

Anyway here's what happened over the weekend...

Saturday - was really bored... fiddled with the library computers. Then decided to take a bus down town to buy a book to read. Bumped into jessica and celine on the bus. then they were saying that they were meeting rebecca and jane in town too... then ask me if i wanna join them. Since i didn't really have any purpose going to town anyway, i just tagged along lo. sigh. it's like girls can just hang around at a clothes shop for like an hour and two... was kinda bored. But of cos, some company is always better than no company. Went back, cleared the junk in my room... and harrassed val, who's in the midst of her exams like everyone else at nus :)

Blah blah blahed for 20 mins.. then gave a call to xy. She's from ntu... so yeah. exams finished already too. You were saying sth that I've got this slang now, that isn't exactly very 'singaporean'.. that comment kind of stung me for a while, cos i usually associate ang moh slang with "being irritating".. i kind of remembered my sec 3 & 4 geog teacher. she's a very nice teacher... but her slang was so strong that everyone was kind of turned off by it. When I was trying to sleep, i was thinking about how to get rid of that slang when I come home. As in, I don't want to inadvertently create a barrier between my friends and myself... like, ppl are gonna think: "why on the world does he speak like THAT?" that's kinda bad, hey?

Sunday - my obsession with "slang" continued. Went to church.. but I wasn't exactly listening to the sermon. But was observing how chinese ppl here speak, and how similar (or disimilar) is it with the locals. Those that are already here since their entire lives.. they speak exactly like australians. For the just arrived, like me, u can easily pick out the "yeahhhhh" in my speech, or the way i say "today", "yesterday" etc.. it somehow sounds like "to'dai", "yester'dai" etc... After church, I hung out with samuel, joseph, and their two friends from their high school (christ church grammar school)... ate at this food court, which looked suspiciously as if i was in singapore. even the stall holders look s'porean. I ate at this "take-all-u-can" chinese food stall... and that was when my kiasu side that is intrinsic to all of us reared its ugly head - i took until my plate was over-flowing :)

Went back.. watched australian idol finals live from sydney opera house. during the performances, there was this chinese guy called "flynn" who urm is like a kind of william hung, oz idol-reject.. but very popular cos he's so crass. and so, flynn was performing some kind of dance... he's obviously copying william hung, but reminds me more of mark lee than anything else. Anyway, casey won australian idol 2004. she's from bankstown, sydney. 16 year old girl. it seemed to me that the final competition was more like a competition between Victoria (Melbourne) and New South Wales (Sydney), since the oher finalist is from Melb. As u might know, VIC and NSW ppl don't really like each other. The Eastern ppl look down on WA ppl as "the backward ones", and of cos, WA ppl don't regard their eastern neighbours in high esteem as well :)

Mum and dad called half-way as I was watching TV... and i think my dad's finally warming up to the idea that it won't be me that will take over the family business. As in, he's trying to be more interested in international politics, though the results can be quite funny.

Dad: "u know right, george bush appointed concorde rice to be his secretary of state... u know what she major in or not?"

Me: "dad, it's CONDOLEZZA rice. not concorde rice, or coconut rice for that matter. so what did she major in?"

(well, u can't blame him... he was educated his whole life in a chinese school)

Dad: "she majored in international relations and russian affairs. Actually u know right, george bush knows nothing about foreign policy one. he has been depending on her advice ever since he was running for president."

That's like, such an understatement :)

And lastly, here's the weather report for today. Over here in Perth, the maximum is expected to hit 37 C at 3.30pm... that's like totally hot and crazy. I'm just gonna hide in the library or sth like that. take care, 23 more days to home.
