cc's convocation

Happened last night. Of cos, I could not enter cos only parents, and perhaps girlfriends are allowed in. So we all waited outside Winthrop Hall (where convocations are held) for chee chung. Winthrop Hall is at the "front" of UWA, and that's the building / area that is always used to represent UWA, cos like I said before, Winthrop Hall looks like Hogwarts. And apparently, the "practices" during convocation also kind of resemble Hogwarts - the deans, lecturers, and PhD students sit on the stage, facing the incoming graduates. Not to mention that they wear weird clothes that resembles medieval England.

So the ceremony lasted from 6pm - 9pm. I arrived at 9pm.. but they weren't out yet. So yeah just waited. The lawn in front of Winthrop was illuminated, full of tables with wine, food and whatever have you not.

Angel, a fellow OCF-er, was asking me "what do you think of graduation ceremonies?"... and i gave a response that only close friends would see it as "it's just me". I said, "Oh it's just illusion. Like a moment of glory. After that, one has to face the terrible prospect of being (un)/ or employed and facing nasty bosses". And she was like, *speechless* haha. Get to know me better one day, eh.

But of cos, cc came out...took photos. was quite sad actually. cos' as i'm writing this now, his parents and him are flying back to s'pore / JB now.

But anyway, it was the first time i saw a proper convocation / graduation. U know, the idea of we poor JC kids having the idea of graduation = singing songs, teachers trying to sing songs, giving eulogies etc. But of course, graduation is always a bitter-sweet experience. Wonder if I'll ever make it through to that day.

European Studies Lecture
U know, there was this mad man who was sitting w/in us during ES lecture today.. he was not a student doing ES. At first he was just coughing away... then he started whistling loudly at the girls in front of him. It wasn't like in JC, where we have people who talk loudly behind u or what. It was like, intimidating. Like, you thought he could just take a gun and start shooting around. Plus the fact that he was gruff-looking and all. Then Caroline (my lecturer & tutor) stopped abruptly and said, "Is there a problem at the back?"... but yeah everyone could tell she was intimidated and freaked out too. Yeah but anyway the lecture went on... he didn't make major disturbances after that.. but his mere presence was still unnerving. And we were talking about him during our tute at 3pm.
