30 April 2004

30.4.04 - When someone mentions the word "expatriate" to you, what images conjure up in your mind? It always seems to be "British men who sample durians and screw up their faces" or "some chap who gets posted to some part of Asia, arrive at the airport and say "ooh look at their airport. it stinks. nothing compared to Charles de Gaulle. oh how can these people stay in such slums? i can't see myself in there." Of cos there are some nice ones here and there, but that's the image of an expat here rite?

And when we locals work in a Western country, what are we called? "skilled workers" - (which is quite obviously to distinguish us against unskilled workers right). Like, has anyone heard of an Asian working in a Western country and called an expatriate? See the apparent bias?

Oh anyway. I think I'll be reinstated to the secondary library soon. Cos my colleagues are saying "i think we should get him back" .. apparently, that new teacher can't do the library cos she's too busy with her own music classes... and when the HOD got sunita to do it, she came to me and said: "eh how arh? i don't really know. i dunno how to do this and that. when are you coming back?" I think, the hod is too proud to ask me back. if you ask me, i'm more than willing to go back to the sec library.. so love the carpet and air-con. can sleep in it. =)

There's this person on funkygrad.com that wrote she went for the fass interview... and they asked questions on "what is your favourite book?", talked about "a beautiful mind", as in the movie... "what's your aim in life" .. i wonder what the interviewers might think if i say "urm sorry. i dun read leh. how?"

it's 1st May tmrw! start of a long 4 day holiday. but no letter to complement the holiday mood. =(
